An unexpected red banner or bar across the top of your Gmail app usually serves as a critical status warning regarding your Google Account.

To fix it, follow these steps to address the root causes:

  • Check Your Google Storage: The most common reason for a sudden red banner is that your Google Account storage is completely full, which blocks you from sending or receiving emails. Open Safari and log into your Google Account to check your storage quota. If you have exceeded the free 15 GB limit, you will need to delete large files from Google Drive or empty your Gmail Trash/Bin.
  • Verify Account Security or Connection Errors: A red bar can appear if Gmail suffers a sync failure or if Google requires a security verification. Open Safari, navigate to the Gmail website, and sign in. Check if Google prompts you with a security challenge or password verification.
  • Force Close and Restart the App: If it is a temporary graphic glitch, swipe up from the bottom of your iPad Pro screen to open the App Switcher, then swipe up on the Gmail app preview to close it completely. Reopen Gmail to see if the bar clears.
  • Remove and Re-add Your Account: If the red bar stays, it may be a deep sync error. Open the Gmail app, tap your profile picture in the top right, select Manage accounts on this device, and choose Remove account. Afterward, restart your iPad Pro and add the account back.

To help narrow down the problem, let me know:

  • Does the red bar display a specific error message (like "Storage Full" or "Account Not Synced")?
  • Can you still successfully send and receive new emails right now?

With those details, I can provide the exact fix for that alert.

Google Mail is not an Apple service or App.

For issues with the Gmail App or Gmail service, you would best seek assistance from Googles own online help resources. For Gmail:

Your Gmail inbox being highlighted in red may suggest that your Gmail storage is full - or the account cannot send or receive messages. Instead of using the Gmail App, try signing-in to Gmail using a web browser - as from here you should be able to manage your Gmail account and services.

I did all these steps this is an Apple issue because ever since that last ISO update my touchscreen to block spam numbers becomes unresponsive simultaneously. Or Gmail is not responding to this last ISO update. I can’t even compose emails now…

I don't see that you've deleted the app and reinstalled it. It looks as if the last update was three days ago. If you haven't done that, it's worth trying.
