Screen time limits being applied before usage time has been met.

I have screen time limits set up for my child's iPhone 16. The apps in question are Instagram, Tik Tok and Snapchat. There are several occasions where the apps shut down well before the limit was met. As an example, in the morning the apps will already be shut down, even though they haven't been accessed since the day before. I've double checked that there are no combined social media limits and that the apps haven't beed used on other shared devices.

Has anyone experienced the same thing? Any luck figuring out how to rectify this?

Hi there

Please try this

  • Delete and Recreate the Limits: Go to Settings > Screen Time > App Limits, delete the limits for Instagram, TikTok, and Snapchat completely, and set them up fresh.
  • Turn Off Background App Refresh: On the iPhone, go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh and turn it off for those social media apps.
  • Force Close and Restart: Force close Instagram, TikTok, and Snapchat, then perform a quick restart of the iPhone.
  • Check Family Sharing Sync: If you manage the limits via Family Sharing, make sure both your device and your child's iPhone are updated to the latest iOS version, and re-apply the setting from the parent's device.
  • Toggle Screen Time Off and On: As a last resort, turn off Screen Time entirely under Settings > Screen Time > Turn Off App & Website Activity, restart the phone, and turn it back on.
