Visual intelligence has stopped working on iPhone 17 Pro Max.

Visual intelligence seems to have stopped working on my iPhone 17 Pro Max, iOS 27.0.1. Pressing the side button now brings up the camera; depending on whether I use a short or long press, it takes either a photo or starts recording video. I've checked the settings, and can't find anything that suggests why it might not be working. Also, when I follow the instructions for accessing it from the camera, there is no icon available to tap to bring it up.

Has anyone else run into this? What did you do to solve it?

Thanks in advance,

Kevin

First try a forced restart

  1. Press and quickly release the volume up button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume down button.
  3. Press and hold the side button.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the side button.

If this is not working try this

Visual Intelligence depends directly on the core Apple Intelligence system. If Apple Intelligence is processing an update, it will disable all dependent features.

  1. Go to Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri.
  2. Make sure the system status shows as Active or On.
  3. If it says "Downloading" or "Updating," connect your phone to Wi-Fi and a charger until the background download completes.
