Trying to unlock my computer so I can install an update... MacBook Pro (M1, 2020)

Hello community, my first question.. I am trying to update my computer and have not updated since I got it almost 4 years ago. I know my apple ID password but the one I need to download the install is different and I cannot remember it.. It gives me know options or hints to find it. It is the unlock screen that pops up saying, "in order to continue installing mac OS, you need to log in as an administrator".. The only option that I have found to figure this out is to take it in to a MAC store and have them do it for me? ... Any tips or thoughts... Thank you :)
