Books app crashing with marked PDFs on iPad Pro after iOS update

Since the most recent iOS update, Books on my 2022 iPad Pro (6th gen, M2) has been sufficiently unstable to crash for PDFs which a moderate to large number of markings. While this has occasionally happened before for particularly large PDFs with many markings (full orchestral scores), its frequency has increased significantly and is now happening with simple choral scores that are just a few pages and just a few markings.

While I do have forScore and will probably switch over after this, I've been using Books for my musical scores for as long as Books has existed and have an entire marked library. I'd prefer to continue using Books if possible.

As an aside, I also miss when Books had auto-shape/shape recognition and would be forever grateful for having my beautiful lines and circles and ovals back. I often don't have the time to use the ruler tool for a crescendo during rehearsal. I know this broke back with 17.4, but it would be lovely to have work again.
