Severe battery drain on iPhone 17 after updating to version 27.01

Device: iPhone 17, purchased in June this year

Software version: 27.01

After updating to version 27.01, my phone suffers extremely fast battery drain.

Battery stats: 155 charge cycles, 98% maximum battery health.

Optimized charge limit is set to 95%.

From full charge down to 20% battery, I only get roughly 4 hours of usage.

Has anyone else encountered this same problem?

iPhone 17, iOS 27

Welcome and thank you for reaching out. 🤗

A rapid battery drain after updating to iOS 27.0.1 can happen while the system reindexes and optimizes in the background, usually taking a day or two.

According to Apple: If you notice that your battery life has decreased after updating your device, wait a few days and then check again. Even though you can use your device immediately after an update, certain tasks related to the update continue in the background and might affect battery life and thermal performance. While they're ongoing, you might see the Insight Ongoing iOS Update in Settings ➢ Battery.

Sure. See below. This is today’s usage:

You are still having background indexing being performed from the most recent update/restore, which is why you are seeing significant Home & Lock Screen usage under Other Battery Usage. Settings may also show Optimization being performed for Siri and Search to facilitate Siri AI. These background processes start over after a reset/restore, so it would then require an additional 5-7 days.

You can expect that indexing to continue for about 5-7 days and it will increase battery drain, increase heat and cause some UI lag during that time. It appears you are leaving your device plugged into power and connected to WiFi, so continue to do that to prevent it from taking longer. If that indexing process has stuck for some reason then perform a Force Restart.

  • Press and quickly release Volume Up
  • Press and quickly release Volume Down
  • Press and HOLD the Side button until the Apple Logo appears. This may take up to 15 seconds while holding the side button before you see the Apple Logo and you have to ignore anything else on the screen during that time including the prompt to Slide to Power Off.

I am facing the same issue with my I phone 17, I initially thought it was just indexing but it’s been a week after the update and the battery drain hasn’t been fixed.

Post the screenshot of Settings > Battery > View All Battery Usage and include both battery graphs and the top 6 apps consuming your battery. If you see anything on the bottom of the screen where is shows system usage, then post that as well. If you see Home & Lock Screen usage there that is an indication that indexing is still going on.

In order for those background processes to finish quicker, your phone should be connected to power and Wifi all night, every night.

Hello,

I have been experiencing the same issue. I have an iPhone 17 that is relatively new (August 2026) with 100% battery health and a cycle count of 70. On average with iOS 27, I drop 8-10% battery life per hour, even when I am not using the phone. The device becomes relatively warm as well in stand by mode.

I had excellent battery life on iOS 26. Once I upgraded to iOS 27.0.1, I have been struggling to make it through a day. It doesn’t seem like adaptive power is doing anything.

Here are some of the steps I have tried:

  • I connected the iPhone to my Mac and erased/restored the software. I set up the iPhone up as a new phone. I didn’t restore from an iCloud backup. I only downloaded photos, email, etc. I redownloaded only necessary apps.
  • I turned off background app refresh, cellular connectivity assist, and my always-on display.
  • I am almost a week out from the restore and I still get poor battery life.
  • I chatted with Apple support multiple times and they did battery tests and told me the battery is operating normally.

I gather something is going on with IOS 27. Below is a screenshot of my current battery life today. My drops each hour are significant, in my opinion. Some days I use the display less than 2 hours.

I appreciate any ideas. I am frustrated as it seems iOS 27 has severely impacted the battery in my relatively new phone.
