I had a previous iTunes account with a email address which I cannot use anymore, how can I retrieve this as company which it belonged to doesn't exist, have longs of music associated to this?

Does the Apple Account still exist – even though the e-mail address you originally associated with it is long gone?
If so, you might be able to log into the Apple Account. If you can't log into the Apple Account (because you can't receive 2FA authentication codes), you might need to contact Apple Support to find out what your options are – if any.
