Unable to change child's Apple ID age to remove app restrictions

How do I change my child's age?

My child has an iPhone SE 3rd gen and has IOS 27.0.1 and I have iPhone 8 IOS 16.7.16. I just updated his phone, now apps he needs are "age restricted". How can I change his age or take off the restrictions. I have tried:

  • To change this from his phone (sending my phone a request for access). My phone has received nothing for me to respond to.
  • To change this from my phone. I have nothing to select to change his age.
  • To change this from account.apple.com. It just tells me the age he is with no option to update.

How can I change his account to an adult account or his age?

iPhone 8, iOS 16

If you change an Apple Account to a Child Account - Apple Support

You can update the birthday of the Apple Account your child or teen is using. Use Settings or System Settings on a device with the account signed in, or sign in with their account on account.apple.com

Refer to this article to learn how to update the birthday of an Apple Account —> Update the birthday associated with an Apple Account - Apple Support Follow the web directions. I am wondering if your iPhone's running iOS 16 means that it is not interfacing properly with your child's iPhone. If you were to call Apple about this I am pretty sure they would give you the standard, "Make sure that all devices are running the newest iOS version," which clearly your iPhone 8 cannot run.

Re: "Unable to change child's Apple ID age to remove app restrictions : How do I change my child's age?"

Apple Support's article: Update the birthday associated with an Apple Account - Apple Support

Eg: says:

"You can edit a child’s birthday by signing in to their account on the web".

and

"Edit your birthday or a child’s birthday on the web"

  1. Sign in to account.apple.com with the account you want to edit.
  2. Select Personal Information, then choose Birthday.
  3. Update the birthday and click Save."

If this method is still not working for you:
