How to reset forgotten password on MacBook Pro 2015 using Apple ID?

I have connected to my WiFi and gone into recovery mode to reset through my Apple ID and it says “error”. I then click on “reset password” and says it’s not connected to the internet.

I have rebooted it with ctrl, options, P and R. It made a bunch of restart sounds, rebooted and still having the same issue.

Any ideas? It has photos on of loved ones that I’d rather not erase.

If you have forgotten your Mac login password; after trying three attempts, you should find an option to reset your password with your Apple Account.

From there, you simply follow the prompts and your Mac should simply restart like normal.

NOTE: You may need to sign back into iCloud and other services after the successful login.
