Unable to Factory Reset My MacBook – Find My Activation Lock Requests an Invalid Apple Account

Hello everyone,

I’m having a problem with my MacBook and would really appreciate any help or advice.

I’m trying to completely erase my MacBook and restore it to factory settings. However, during the reset process, I’m asked to enter the password for an old Apple Account that is linked to Find My and Activation Lock.

When I enter the password, the system tells me that the account is invalid. As a result, I cannot proceed with the reset and fully restore my MacBook.

Here is what I have tried so far:

  • I contacted Apple Support directly by phone.
  • I explained the issue and the error message I was receiving.
  • Unfortunately, Apple Support told me they could not help me resolve the problem and referred me to Apple Support Communities.

I would like to understand why the account is being recognized as invalid and how I can resolve this issue.

My main questions are:

  1. Is there a way to remove the old Apple Account from Find My or Activation Lock if the account is no longer recognized?
  2. Is it possible to erase and restore the MacBook using macOS Recovery without getting stuck on this activation screen?
  3. Are there any official Apple procedures for resolving this issue if Apple Support has been unable to assist me?

I can provide the MacBook model, macOS version, and the exact error message if needed.

I am looking for a legitimate solution through Apple’s official procedures. Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your help!
