The principal difference between the new MacBook Neo and trackpads that Apple uses with either MacBook Air or MacBook Pro is that the Neo uses a traditional mechanical Multi-Touch trackpad, whereas the Air and Pro use Apple's more sophisticated Force Touch trackpad.

With the MacBook Pro, pressing the trackpad produces a convincing clicking sensation, but that sensation is generated by a haptic actuator rather than a conventional mechanical switch. The trackpad can also distinguish between different levels of pressure, enabling features such as Force Click, pressure-sensitive drawing, and accelerated media controls.

However, the MacBook Neo instead produces a genuine mechanical click. Interestingly, Apple designed its trackpad to be clickable anywhere on its surface, rather than restricting reliable clicking to the lower portion as some older mechanical trackpads did.

The bottom line? If you're used to using the trackpads on the more expensive Mac laptops, the one used with the Neo will NOT feel the same.
