Oct 18, 2026

Account

  • Plan: iCloud+
  • Apple Account: I will confirm my Apple Account email directly with the support agent.

The problem

I cannot sign in to the iCloud for Windows app on my new PC. Every attempt fails right after I enter my Apple Account email and password and click Sign In, before any two-factor code prompt appears.

Exact error shown:

Verification Failed — There was an error connecting to the Apple ID server.

The app is the Microsoft Store version: AppleInc.iCloud_13.4.101.0_x86.

What works

My account and password are correct. On this same PC, I can sign in to icloud.com in a web browser with the same Apple Account and see my Photos, Drive, Notes and other data normally. Only the iCloud for Windows app fails.

Troubleshooting already completed

I have worked through Apple Support article 111760 (Resolve issues between iCloud for Windows or iTunes and third-party security software) and more. The error was identical after every step.

Note: “Run as administrator” on the iCloud app could not be tested. Windows blocks it for Microsoft Store apps with “Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file.”

What I need from Apple

  1. Check the server-side logs for my Apple Account to see why sign-in attempts from iCloud for Windows are rejected.
  2. Confirm whether anything on my account blocks Windows sign-in, such as Advanced Data Protection or a security flag.
  3. Escalate to senior support or engineering if needed, since every standard step has been completed.

I can share screenshots of the error and join a screen-sharing session if that helps.
