Logic Pro 12.4 drop-down menus fail to latch with scaled macOS cursor
Bug Report: Logic Pro 12.4 Drop-Down Menu Latching Failure Caused by Scaled macOS Cursor Bounding Box
Area: Logic Pro / macOS AppKit Event Handling
Product: Logic Pro (v12.4)
OS Version: macOS 27 / macOS Sequoia (or current build)
Hardware: Mac Studio (M2 Max), Apple Magic Mouse, High-Resolution 4K/Retina Display
Description
When the system Cursor Size in macOS Accessibility settings is scaled up larger than the default 1:1 minimum, the physical cursor's bounding box and hit-testing hotspot expand. In Logic Pro 12.4, this expanded bounding box causes custom channel strip UI elements (specifically Audio FX, Instrument, and Send slot pop-up menus) to fail to latch open on a standard single click.
Instead of entering sticky mode, the minor positional offset or edge-jitter during a physical mouse down/up event triggers a spurious 1-pixel mouseDragged synthetic event. This immediately forces Logic’s menu code to interpret the action as a pull-down or drag-select command, causing the drop-down menu to collapse instantly upon release unless the user maintains absolute sub-pixel hand stillness.
Steps to Reproduce
Open System Settings > Accessibility > Display > Pointer (or Cursor).
Increase the Cursor Size slider by one or more notches above the minimum (default) setting.
Launch Logic Pro 12.4 and open any session.
Go to the Mixer or Inspector and give any empty or populated Audio FX or Send slot a normal, natural single click and release.
Observe that the pop-up/contextual menu flashes open and immediately collapses the moment the mouse button is released.
Return to System Settings and reset the Cursor Size slider back to the default (minimum) position.
Return to Logic Pro and repeat the click; the menu now latches normally.
Expected Result
A standard single click-and-release on a Logic Pro channel strip slot should reliably open and hold (latch) the contextual drop-down menu open, regardless of whether the system cursor size is scaled above the default threshold.
Actual Result
Any cursor size magnification greater than the default 1:1 minimum breaks the hit-testing hysteresis threshold for custom AppKit pop-up buttons in Logic Pro 12.4, resulting in premature menu closure and usability failure.
Additional Notes / Diagnostics
Tested across multiple display scaling resolutions (including integer and fractional HiDPI frames). The display resolution is not the root cause; the bug scales strictly with the OS cursor size vector.
Bypassed by resetting the cursor size to default or using keyboard shortcuts (Control + Command + P), but severely impacts mouse-driven mixing workflows.
