Reinstalling Pages fixes typing lag and beachballing
Apple Pages has (for years, no matter what OSX or version) has eventually created lag in typing (characters appear long after keys are pressed) and beachballing.
No matter what OS or version of Pages. I've followed countless recommendations (too long to list, some with temporary improvement but the problem eventually comes back.
****THIS ONE-CLICK FIX IS THE ONLY THING THAT WORKED FOR ME***:
--> DOWNLOAD and (RE)INSTALL, even if it's the same version! <--
PAGES NOW WORKS PERFECTLY. I couldn't believe it. HOURS spent on trying EVERY tip I could find to eliminate this fargin' issue. The only downside that the "recently opened" list was empty. No more typing with lag or beachballing (or crashing) in the EXACT same document (5,000 words).
I kept getting nags about the "NEW VERSION OF PAGES" and, out of desperation, tried to download it. However... Apparently version 14.5, the one I have, is the latest without upgrading the OS, which is a big NOPE until Apple finally realizes that people actually use computers for things they can't do on their Phones/iPads.
So, I thought, what the heck, why not re-install the same version in case something went haywire at some point. BINGO!!!
Of course, there is some deep underlying technical problem that requires Apple to dig into, but until Hades Freezes Over, here's the solution.
(Currently running OSX 15.8.1, Pages 14.5. Terrified of upgrading either given reviews. Running a full loaded MacBook Air 2025 M4 with 32 gb of RAM, with SSD 1T hard, drive, so it should CRUSH a 5,000 word document)
