Voice to text incorrectly formats words with parentheses

My voice to text changes certain words when I use them. For example the word tennis is always written like (Tennis). I have no clue how to change this. I’ve gone into “Keyboard” and looked under “Text Replacement” and the word is not listed in there. I’ve looked all over “Accessibility” and I don’t see anything. I don’t know where else to look or what to do. Please help!

Follow these steps to track down and fix the issue:

1. Search Your Contacts List

  1. Open the Contacts app (or the Phone app and tap the Contacts tab).
  2. In the top search bar, type the word giving you trouble (e.g., tennis).
  3. Look through every result that appears. Check the First Name, Last Name, Company, Nickname, and even the Notes fields.
  4. If you find any instance of the word wrapped in parentheses like (Tennis), tap Edit in the top right corner and remove the parentheses.

2. Reset Your Keyboard Dictionary

If you searched your contacts and didn't find anything, the layout may have accidentally been saved to your iPhone's internal keyboard cache. You can clear this memory by resetting the dictionary:

  1. Go to Settings > General.
  2. Scroll to the bottom and tap Transfer or Reset iPhone.
  3. Tap Reset, then select Reset Keyboard Dictionary.
  4. (Note: This won't delete your text replacements, but it will clear any custom typos or weird formatting quirks your phone has learned over time.)

3. Force the Keyboard to "Re-Learn"

If the issue persists, you can train the software to stop formatting it that way:

  1. Dictate a message so that (Tennis) appears on your screen.
  2. Tap the word to bring up the underline/correction pop-up, or backspace and manually type tenniswithout parentheses.
  3. Tapping the correct option teaches the dictation engine to override its previous preference.
