Apple Studio Display compatibility and resolution with HP laptop
Hello,
I'm considering purchasing the 27-inch Apple Studio Display (2026, 5K) for use with an HP Elite mt645 G8 Mobile Thin Client provided by my employer.
According to HP's specifications, this laptop has two USB4 Type-C ports supporting 40 Gbps and DisplayPort 1.4.
The laptop operates as a managed thin client and connects to a Windows virtual desktop through Omnissa Horizon.
Could you please confirm:
- Is the 2026 Apple Studio Display compatible with this HP model through its USB4 Type-C connection?
- Can it operate at its native 5120 × 2880 resolution at 60 Hz?
- If the computer or virtual desktop is limited to 4K, can the Studio Display accept a 3840 × 2160 signal?
- Does basic video output require any Apple-specific drivers or software?
- Are there known limitations when connecting the display to an HP ThinPro or other Linux-based thin client?
I intend to use the Studio Display as my primary monitor, with the laptop screen as a secondary display.
Thank you for your assistance.
