Pressure Sensitivity on the iPad A16

I recently bought the 1st gen apple pen so that I could use it on my A16 ipad because I thought that it would have pressure sensitivity. However, it doesn't seem to work no matter what I do; I've tried the pen on a friend's older ipad so I know that the pen isn't broken and that the pressure sensitivity works. Unsure how to fix this, any suggestions?

Not all Apps support the Apple Pencil pressure sensitivity feature. When verifying normal function of your Apple Pencil with an older iPad, are you testing with the same (albeit perhaps a different version) of the same App?
