Apple care on replacement device

I had my iphone 16 stolen on Monday in London uk. I had apple care theft and loss replacement arrive today no issues. However they sent me an iphone17 instead as the 16 wasn’t available to get me a fast replacement again very happy. However on settings my apple care is not on my new phone and was still on my old stolen iphone16. I called apple services they told me to cancel it on my stolen device and then I should be able to get it on my new one. This is not the case and now when I go on the apple care website it’s saying none of my devices are eligible for apple care. I called apple again and they said wait 24hrs is this true? Will I be able to get apple care?
