GIFT CARD SCAM THAT APPLE KEEPS ASKING FOR THE SAME INFO OVER AND OVER AGAIN

HAS ANYONE ELSE EXPERIENCED THIS? I feel like I am being scammed a second time by Apple. I was involved in an attempted scam by a person posing as Zelle support. I bought 4 apple gift cards and as I was leaving the store I realized that this must be a scam and I did NOT turn the cards over and disconnected with the scammer. I immediately reported it to Apple support and also my local police. I was given the detailed information from Apple support on how to make a claim. The person walked me through how to prepare the photographs with the store receipt, the activation receipt, the front of the card with the activation code revealed, and the front of the package - take picture. Then turn over the card and the back of the package in the same order as the store receipt and the activation receipt and take the second picture. The store receipt and the activation receipt both had the Case ID# written clearly on them. This was uploaded the following day after purchase. When I heard nothing. I called a few weeks later and was told that an email had been sent to me asking for more information and that I had not included the store receipt (which was not true, I had). The email address used by Apple was not any of mine. So I reconfirmed my correct email address that I had originally used to report the scam. The support individual sent me a new email at that address so I could go through the whole process again which I did the same day. In addition to the 2 pictures for each card as stated above I also included a separate picture of the store receipt with the Case ID written on it. Today I received the same email again. The email asks for more information, but doesn't say what information is needed. You go to the claim site and you just have to upload everything again. I THINK APPLE JUST WANTS TO KEEP FRUSTRATING ME UNTIL I GO AWAY. I'M NOT GOING AWAY. Apple does not have any other number to call than the Apple Support number. Today I called again to ask why I keep getting this. The support person has no additional support to give me. I asked to escalate the problem. So I talked to a senior support person who has not additional information to give. Apparently the unit that handles gift card refunds and scams in some super secret unit that no one can call or email. What's up with that? There is not a single other way to deal with this??? Sounds like Apple just wants me to go away. I think I'll go to my state attorney general instead. Has anyone else experienced this?

In most regions, Gift Cards are not returnable. If you could return them, that could have been possible right at the store where they were purchased from.

Since you did not turn over the code to the scammer, you still have the money on those cards, so I would redeem them to my account and they could be used for any future purchase whether online, in-store or App Store purchase.

Certainly reporting scams should be done to your local police, AG, and Apple, but as far as a refund goes that is entirely up to Apple and in regions where Gift Card returns are not allowed, I have not seen any posts where that was done. If you end up getting a refund, please update as that information will be useful for others too.

Hi there

Please try this

  1. Print a fresh copy or use your original store receipt and activation receipt. Ensure the Case ID is written clearly at the top.
  2. Photo 1: Lay the receipt down. Place the cards front-side up right next to it. Include the packaging sleeves. Take one crystal-clear photo showing everything together.
  3. Photo 2: Keep the receipt in the exact same spot. Flip the cards back-side up (showing the unscratched PINs and the full serial numbers clearly). Take the second photo.

Thanks, but I don't own any Apply products. So they are useless for me. According to Apple Support, because it was a scam and because I did not give the codes to the scammer, I could claim a refund. The problem is that even though I follow their instructions, they keep asking for the same information over and over. I have reported it to the police.
