When did you update?

You will need to give it about 5-7 days to finish indexing all the new files in the background. During this time you will see increased battery drain, increased heat, and some UI lag until it has finished. To allow it to finish quicker, you should be leaving your phone plugged into the charger all night, every night and have it connected to WiFi. Apple details that here in their Support Article following any update. Yes, that happens after every update, not just this one to iOS 27.

If it has been longer than the 7 days then follow up with the steps here:

  • Post your Battery Health at Settings > Battery > Battery Health. If it is under 80%, then the battery needs replaced and it would have also needed replaced before the update. The battery in that phone was only expected to last 500 charge cycles and most every iPhone users with that model would have needed to replaced it at least once by now. Replacements should only be done at Apple or Authorized Apple seller so you get a genuine battery, otherwise a third party battery may not be able to meet the demand.
  • Post the screenshot at Settings > Battery > View All Battery Usage that shows both battery graphs and the top 6 apps consuming your battery. If you see a large amount of usage on the bottom of the screen under Other Battery Usage, then post that as well. That will show you what is using the battery. Frequently Meta apps are high consumers if you have any installed.

Welcome and thank you for reaching out. 🤗

A rapid battery drain after updating to iOS 27.2 can happen while the system reindexes and optimizes in the background, usually taking a day or two.

According to Apple: If you notice that your battery life has decreased after updating your device, wait a few days and then check again. Even though you can use your device immediately after an update, certain tasks related to the update continue in the background and might affect battery life and thermal performance. While they're ongoing, you might see the Insight Ongoing iOS Update in Settings ➢ Battery.

Thank you for your reply. I have already optimized everything that can be configured on my side.

My main concern is that Apple did not clearly communicate before the update that a full device re-indexing would take place afterward and could significantly impact battery life and performance for several days. That information only seems to appear once the update has already been installed.

This is especially frustrating on an older device that was still working perfectly well before the update. Users should be informed in advance about the potential consequences so they can make an informed decision about when to install the update, rather than discovering the impact afterward.

In my opinion, that lack of transparency is not acceptable, particularly for users of older iPhone models where battery capacity is already more limited.
