Maps not using Irish voice 1 on iPhone 15

Updated my iPhone 15 to iOS 27.0.1. Selected Irish voice 1 for Siri, but that voice is not used in Maps. I have Siri turned off as I do not use it. How can I get Maps to use the Irish voice?

To make Apple Maps use Irish Voice 1, verify and update the following settings:

  • Turn Siri On (Temporarily or Permanently): Apple Maps requires the underlying Siri voice engine active to generate voice prompts. If Siri is completely toggled off, the system may fall back to a default system voice. Go to Settings > Siri (or Apple Intelligence & Siri) and ensure Siri is enabled.
  • Confirm Language and Accent Selection:
    1. Open Settings > Siri (or Apple Intelligence & Siri) > Language and ensure your language is set to English (Ireland) or English (United Kingdom) depending on where Irish Voice 1 is housed.
    2. Tap Voice in the same Siri menu.
    3. Select Irish for the variety/accent, and choose Voice 1. Wait a moment for the voice file to finish downloading/updating over an internet connection.
  • Check Language & Region: Go to Settings > General > Language & Region and verify that your region or primary language preference aligns with English (Ireland) so the voice assets remain active.
  • Restart Your iPhone: After changing the voice in Siri, restart your iPhone 15 to clear cache and force Maps to pick up the new voice profile.
