Is Apple now reading the questions here?

For years community members have been claiming that Apple doesn’t read any of the posts here.

Well, today when I logged into this community the system asked me to check or uncheck boxes allowing or disallowing Apple to contact me about my posts. see attached image.

So it would seem that Apple is in fact now reading these posts. Right?

You can't count on anyone from Apple reading your posts here, and certainly can't count on AI connecting the dots between wildly divergent reports that Contributors sometimes boil down to the same underlying issue and/or provide divergent suggestions for solution or work-around.

That is why the standard advice continues to be:

If you want to give Apple a 'Heads up, there is a Problem' report, you post it as a type Bug Report on the Apple product feedback pages:

Product Feedback - Apple

You should always include your assessment of the issue, but you can include a link to the specific discussion on these (public) forums.

That contact practice is not new, though that checkbox is making explicit practices going back some fifteen years, and quite probably longer.

And I’ve been careful to use “may or may not read, and only seldom replies” answers, though I and others here would not expect a reply from Apple. Not this side of a terms-of-service issue, removing of personal info or editing other details (such as happened here), or a health or safety issue, or similar posting.

And as with all user-submitted forums, there can be some… unusual… claims in some postings.

If you want or need an (official) answer for some hardware or software or service issue, contact Apple support.

What with building LLM corpora and their own product and service support info and the rest, I’d be surprised if Apple wasn’t using ASC info.

And yes, you can ☑️ so that Apple can choose to contact you about, well, something.

No. Apple's asking for permission to dig into your Apple Account and cross-reference something you posted here. That doesn't mean they will actually do it.

This is something that end users (and developers) really don't understand about the market and its scale. They see these existential-type statements like "there exists the possibility that" and immediately jump to an assumption of "it's our normal practice to", but those are wildly different extremes.

But it also doesn’t mean they *won’t* read it. IMO, if Apple wanted good intel on what changes to make that would benefit the most users they’d feed this entire database into AI and have it summarize what people are struggling with the most. I would be surprised if they aren’t already doing that.

You made my point exactly.

Now you are just speculating. We don't deal with speculation here. If Apple ever contacted a user about a post here, you certainly would see that comment.

If you wanted Apple to read a comment, suggestion, or something that you are struggling with then there is an entirely different platform where Apple does read those posts and assures you that they do.
