Re: Cancel transaction that is still pending

How to cancel a transaction still pending?

If there is just a small amount pending, it may be an authorisation hold.

These are usually temporary and removed by your financial institution / card-holder.

Else:

A transaction that is pending is a purchase agreement that hasn't been completed.

An incomplete transaction can not be cancelled.

The usual method is to pay what you owe, and then there is something to cancel.

(Eg: Cancel a subscription you no longer want)

You can then request a refund, which Apple may or may not be able to approve.

ie: Not all purchases are Apple's products, so sometimes it is an app developer that may have the purchase money (eg: for in-app purchases etc.) and you would have to ask them about a refund.

A “pending” charge means you may have something such as a subscription that is running but there is no method available in your account to pay for it. This support article about how apps, content, and subscriptions from Apple are billed How apps, content, and subscriptions from Apple are billed - Apple Support says:

“If none of your payment methods can be charged, your account shows a negative balance. You can't buy, download, or update more apps or items until you update your payment method. ”

Here are various ways to pay for items in the iTunes and App Stores.

- Add a payment method (usually a card of some kind) to your account. See this article about payment methods that you can use with your Apple Account --> Payment methods that you can use with your Apple Account - Apple Support then see this article about how to add a payment method to your Apple Account --> Add a payment method to your Apple Account - Apple Support

- Add money to your Apple Account balance - "Use a payment method, such as a credit or debit card, to add funds to your Apple Account balance." This takes the previous payment method one step farther by optionally using it to irreversibly add funds to an Apple ID account balance instead of having the card charged each time.

If no option is shown to "Add Money to Account" using this method (you only see using gift cards) then it may not be available in your country. Use a gift card instead.

- This article outlines how to redeem an Apple Gift Card or App Store & iTunes gift card --> Redeem your Apple Gift Card, App Store Card, or App Store & iTunes Gift Card - Apple Support

How apps, content, and subscriptions from Apple are billed - Apple Support describes another possibility:, "If you see a pending charge for a small amount. If you update your billing information or add someone to your Family Sharing group, a temporary authorization hold for a small amount might appear on your statement. Authorization holds are removed by your card issuer or financial institution after a short time."

If it is indeed a subscription that you do not want

  1. Cancel the subscription --> Cancel a subscription from Apple - Apple Support
  2. Pay what you owe.
  3. Ask for a refund if you wish --> Request a refund for apps or content that you bought from Apple - Apple Support
