Hardware keyboard not working with Windows App and Remote Desktop connection in iOS 27

I use the Microsoft Windows App on my 13” iPad to connect to a Windows Cloud PC using a hardware keyboard (both Bluetooth and folio-attached keyboards) or at least I used to until iOS 27 was installed. Now, suddenly, it appears that iOS intercepts roughly two thirds of the characters typed (occasionally it works normally but that is typically only for a few seconds). It does work with the soft keyboard but that is not practical to use with the amount of typing I do in Windows. I spent two hours on the phone with Apple Support including escalation to second level to no avail. Since it is specific to the Microsoft App their final suggestion was to contact the developer. Since I’m not a commercial customer, in these days of AI support, I have yet to find a way to talk to someone who can help me. Is anyone else seeing this issue (or not seeing it)?

One possible alternative is to use a different RDM app but since I can’t find out from Microsoft what the external connection information is for my Cloud PC I have resorted to using an inferior VDI from a different vendor with the new RDM app and that works.

Hi there

Please try this

  1. Disable "Full Keyboard Access" on iPad:
    • Go to Settings → Accessibility → Keyboards → Full Keyboard Access and toggle it Off. (Users on Reddit report that accidentally or automatically enabling this feature breaks external keyboard pass-through inside the Windows App).
  1. Check App and Keyboard Settings Inside Windows App:
    • Open the Windows app and check your workspace or PC connection settings for any keyboard mode, scancode, or direct input toggles.
    • Ensure your work/school account is re-authenticated cleanly, and delete/re-add the Cloud PC connection profile.
  1. Toggling AssistiveTouch (Hardware Handshake Reset):
    • Go to Settings → Accessibility → Touch → AssistiveTouch and toggle it On and then Off. Some users find this forces iPadOS to flush stuck hardware-to-software input hooks.
