Has anyone successfully received a refund from Apple after the 14-day return period?

Hi everyone,

I purchased a MacBook Neo from an Apple Store in Australia on September 7th and paid the full price upfront.

Unfortunately, after using it for some time, I've realised that I'm not satisfied with my purchase. I expected better battery life, and I've also struggled to adapt to macOS. I genuinely tried to get used to the operating system, but I don't feel that it's the right choice for me.

I understand that Apple's standard return policy allows returns within 14 days, and I know that I'm now outside that period. However, I've contacted Apple Support, and they offered to escalate my case so that someone could review my situation.

I no longer have the original box, but I still have the MacBook and its accessories, as well as proof of purchase.

Has anyone in Australia successfully received a full refund as an exception under similar circumstances, even after the 14-day period?

I'm specifically looking for a refund to my original payment method, not store credit or a trade-in.

I'd really appreciate hearing about your experiences or any advice on how to approach Apple Support.

Thank you!

MacBook Neo 13″, macOS 27.0

Hi, I really don’t see an exception being made at 50 days out from the end of the return period. Apple Support online had very little discretion to deviate from the official return policy. In general, store management may be a little more receptive. But that’s too far out, even for me. When I was a manager 30 days was around my limit. I understood that life happens and not everyone can be pigeonholed into a one size fits all policy. But you’re approaching 2 months and that’s a bit much. My advice though is it never hurts to ask and the worst thing that happens is you make a new friend with the manager.

If you’re reasonably close to the store you could attend some of the free Today at Apple sessions that would help with adjusting to the new OS. Some larger cities generally have individuals offering tutoring. Libraries and colleges often offer adult education classes that would help.

Your other alternatives are to try selling it. You might even consider purchasing Apple Care for the device before its eligibility runs out at 60 days. Potential buyers are more likely to pay a premium for the extra peace of mind AppleCare offers. Good luck!

Hi! I bought my MacBook Neo on September 7th, so I'm now 50 days past the purchase date. I haven't tried returning it at the store yet. I contacted Apple Support first because I wanted to know if there was any possibility of getting a refund before going there.

I'm unhappy with the battery life, and I've also struggled to adapt to macOS. I understand that I'm well past the 14-day return period, but I was hoping Apple might consider an exception. Since you have experience as a former Apple Store manager, do you think there's any chance they would approve a refund if I visited the store?
