Texting, multiple characters with one touch

When texting on my SE (3rd Gen) I have started having issues with multiple characters appearing with one touch. I have attempted to solve the problem in Touch Accommodations, trying both "ignore repeat" and "hold duration" to no avail. The only thing that seems to work is a hard reset, but even that fixes the issue for a day or two. Does anyone have suggestions or fixes? This is getting very frustrating. Thanks in advance.
