Calendar location field not accepting non-address entries after iOS 27.0.1 update

Just updated to iOS 27.0.1. Now when setting up a new event in Calendar, it will not accept a location that isn't an address or a "known" place, e.g. 'Conference room B'. Existing events are not affected. Is there any way to work around this so it works like it did previously?

iPhone SE, iOS 27

Hi, iOS 27.2 was released three days ago. Please update your iPhone and give it 5 to 7 days to finish indexing, syncing and optimizing. During that time your device may occasionally seem slow or sluggish. This is due to the CPU and GPU doing the above processing. Higher than normal battery usage and higher temperatures may also be observed. You can minimize your inconvenience by plugging your device into a charger, connecting to WiFi and locking it before you go to bed. This allows the device to complete tasks while you’re sleeping and minimize your daytime downtime. Good luck.

I hadn’t noticed, because I’ve never used the brain-dead built-in Calendar app. I use a 3rd party calendar, WeekCal, and it does not have that limitation. But I can confirm your observation.

The title of your post says: after iOS 27.0.1 update

Not every issue an individual encounters on their device can be attributed to an iOS update. iOS 27 or later may have coincided with what you are experiencing, but that does not mean the issue was triggered by iOS. Coincidence in timing is not, by itself, evidence of causation.

If the update itself were the root cause, then every device running that same version of iOS would exhibit the identical problem. In such a scenario, the forums would be flooded with countless posts reporting the same malfunction, creating an unmistakable wave of complaints that no one could possibly overlook.

The absence of such widespread reports strongly indicates that the issue is not a general, system-wide problem with iOS 27 or later, but rather something specific to the individual device, its configuration, installed apps, settings, hardware, or another interacting factor.

In short: iOS 27 or later may be a coincidence in timing, but there is no basis to conclude that iOS itself triggered the problem simply because the issue appeared after the update.

When creating an event in the Calendar app, you can specify any location of your choice, even if that address is not saved in your Contacts.

Simply tap the Location field and type the address you want to use. As you enter the address, it will appear in the suggestions list, usually above the Current Location option.

Select the address you just entered from the suggestions. It will then be added as the location for your event.

You do not need to save the address as a contact or add it to your saved addresses beforehand. You can enter any valid address directly in the Location field and use it for that particular event.

Refer to the pictorial representation below for a step-by-step illustration of the process.
