How to regain access to a locked MacBook Pro 13 inch Intel after prolonged inactivity?

Cannot start up.

My MBP 13 inch intel sat unused for 6 months while I was in hospital, altho I think my wife and so-i-law tried to start t up, so that I cannot even log the MBP in. I try to start up but the password does not wrk - I am sure it was changed but the one they provided does not work. So I go to recovery page but my Apple ID password gets the spin disk.

Any ideas on how together it working again?
