Built-in screenshot function lacks precision for pixel-perfect captures

I often need to take precise and pixel-perfect screenshots. However, the built in screenshot function is not precise enough. It often adds or removes rows of pixels around the area I selected, and the thick white border of the screenshot selection makes it ambiguous about which pixels are kept. Does anyone know of any solutions (such as plugins or apps) that can let me take more pixel perfect screenshoits?
