iPhone 17 Pro's Photos app crashes when editing large photo library

I’m having a serious issue with the Photos app crashing.

iPhone 17 Pro, iOS 27.0.1

I take a lot of pictures and do minor edits with the photo app. when clicking the edit/adjust button at the bottom of the picture, the app crashes. I have to reopen it and scroll back to the picture I was editing. Never had a problem until the last week or two, and extremely bad today for some reason. I just went through a series of about 30 pictures and the app crashed 8 times. Restart doesn’t help. I do not have shared albums turned on. I’ve heard this is related to large photo libraries? I have 132gb of photos on my phone. Why would this be an issue when I have 220gb of space free on my phone, and 2tb cloud storage? Any ideas how to fix this?

You don't say how large your iPhone's storage is. If it's 2 TB, then 220 GB may not be enough free storage, and crazy things can happen.

A 132 GB Library is not offensively large. I have a 150GB Library on a 512 GB iPad with no problems. But that leaves me with 40% of my storage free. I'm guessing that you are not using Optimize Storage-- is that right?

Do you have a VPN, or "Cleaner" apps, or "Virus" apps? Those can certainly cause problems.

Corrupt files in the Library can cause crashes. Do you have any pictures that don't allow edits or deletes?

The first thing to try is a a forced restart:

Force restart iPhone - Apple Support

This is different from a simple Power Off. For me, the logo appears  5 or 10 seconds past the "slide to power off" message. Wait for the logo; don't do the slide thing.
