Disable Siri response suggestions in Messages on iPhone

In Messages, I want to stop Siri from making suggestions about how to respond to text messages I receive. It's distracting and annoying. I've seen this question answered before, in 2022, but for a much older version than my iPhone 17 (iOS 27.2), so the instructions then don't match what I find in Settings.

Can someone help me?

iPhone 17, iOS 27

Siri on iOS does not independently suggest how you should respond to incoming text messages. Unless you are using a third-party messaging app or an app that provides AI-powered reply suggestions, Siri does not generate contextual responses to your messages by default.

It is important to distinguish between Predictive Text and suggested replies:

- Predictive Text: This feature suggests individual words or phrases as you type, based on the context of your sentence and your typing habits. Its purpose is to help you compose a message more quickly.

- Suggested Replies: These are contextual suggestions for responding to an incoming message. They are different from Predictive Text and may be offered by supported apps or services that have this functionality.

Therefore, Predictive Text should not be confused with an AI-powered reply suggestion feature. Simply put, Predictive Text helps you write your message, whereas suggested replies help you decide what to respond to someone else's message.

Thanks for the primer. Ever since I did an iOS upgrade recently, when I receive a text on the iOS-provided Messages app, there are "canned", full-sentence responses in the predictive text field, not just words that may/may not want to use as I begin to type my response. I don't know where this feature came from, but I have never downloaded any third-party messaging app (at least not one other than Messages).
