Activation Lock screen on MacBook Pro M1 Pro 2021

I am stuck on an Activation Lock screen on a 16-inch MacBook Pro M1 Pro 2021 which I removed from my work Apple account. It will not accept my work Apple ID and password which I know is correct as it works perfectly on the replacement 13-inch MacBook Pro M1. The M1 Pro will not boot into MacOS as it is partially erased and when I power on, it goes into the Activate Mac screen and then the Activation Lock screen with my work Apple ID credentials in the Recovery Assistant mode. I cannot skip this step when I select Erase Mac. I tried to enter DFU mode to wipe it many times but cannot. I notice that a "Activate with MDM key..." option in the Recovery Assistant menu. Is this the only way to wipe the machine? My organization is letting me keep the 16-inch M1 Pro for personal use which I why I am trying to reset it.

You’ll need to contact the IT department of your organization as only they can override the Activation Lock on that device. You cannot. It had to be properly prepared before turning it over to you, hence the “Activate with MDM key”. If they simply handed it over to you they don’t know or understand the procedure required.
