Why is Pages changing document formatting arbitrarily?

Be more specific about what you believe Pages is changing without input. What document? A current Pages document, or are you opening a Word document and Pages is translating it into a Pages document format? Is Pages throwing any dialog during this change activity?
This is a document authored in Pages. I saved and logged out of the app. When I reopened the document the font had changed to Ariel Unicode, the document read right-to-left instead of the traditional left-to-right, although the words were displayed left-to-right. Editing had oriented right-to-left and the email had all been rearragned to (for example): "com.gmail@email address"
Some of the fonts remained visually unchanged but had neen labeled "Ariel Unicode."
There is now an Apple Support case number for this: Case number ***. Support tech Jamal.

I couldn't duplicate this issue here even if I tried. Never experienced that behavior in any version of Pages, so let Apple Support see if they can resolve this for you.
We contacted Support. It is a pretty spectacular bug, though.
