Steps not synchronising between Health and Fitness after iOS27 upgrade

Since upgrading iPhone 16 Pro and Apple Watch 11 to IOS27, I have a weird problem with the steps count in the Fitness app Summary Steps Card screen on the iPhone and Activity on the Watch.

Immediately after the upgrade, my daily step count went to zero on iPhone (on Steps Card on the Summary screen) and Activity on the Watch. However, in Health the step count was correct, and I could see the same number of steps by looking in the detail daily view in Fitness. Also, the rings showed what I expected to see in terms of Movement etc.

As soon as midnight passed on the day of upgrade, the steps started counting and synchronising between Health and Fitness, but the Steps Card does not display me any data for Month or Year (Day and Week are there). When I try to look at, say, Month, I get a spinning wheel as if data is loading (but it never stops - but the app doesn't hang at any point).

If I look at the Calendar view in Fitness on the iPhone, I can see correct data entries going back years. It is only on the Summary screen and the Steps Card that there is a problem.

Speaking to Apple Support, they asked me to unpair and repair the Watch. I did this, but no difference. This has been going on for a couple of weeks and I'd like to fix it!

Anyone else experiencing this? Any suggestions on how to fix it?

Not every issue an individual encounters on their device can be attributed to an iOS update. iOS 27 or later may have coincided with what you are experiencing, but that does not mean the issue was triggered by iOS. Coincidence in timing is not, by itself, evidence of causation.

If the update itself were the root cause, then every device running that same version of iOS would exhibit the identical problem. In such a scenario, the forums would be flooded with countless posts reporting the same malfunction, creating an unmistakable wave of complaints that no one could possibly overlook.

The absence of such widespread reports strongly indicates that the issue is not a general, system-wide problem with iOS 27 or later, but rather something specific to the individual device, its configuration, installed apps, settings, hardware, or another interacting factor.

In short: iOS 27 or later may be a coincidence in timing, but there is no basis to conclude that iOS itself triggered the problem simply because the issue appeared after the update.

See the pic below that may give you an idea of what may be happening.

The Fitness app calculates your step count using activity data from both your iPhone and Apple Watch. When both devices record steps during the same time period, the total shown can be influenced by the Health app's data source priority settings and how it consolidates overlapping data.

To help identify the cause, it's important to determine whether the difference exists between the iPhone and Apple Watch, or between different apps or screens on the iPhone itself.

See the pic below of what I see on my iPhone 13 Pro and Watch SE 3

If possible, please share screenshots showing the different step counts you are seeing. This will help us determine whether the discrepancy is related to data synchronisation between devices, or to the way the Health app is aggregating and displaying step data.
