AirPort connection lost after Golden Gate 27.2 update

Hello! I REALLY hope someone can help me! Without checking in to it beforehand, I updated to Golden Gate 27.2. I do not use the Time Machine. I have a lot of files, and keep a lot of them on my AirPort to save space on my laptop. Everything worked wonderfully until that update where the files that allow my computer to connect to the AirPort weren't included. I thought that maybe using a cable to connect might work. It did not. Can anyone help? Maybe there's a way to get those files and put them in myself? Fortunately, my husband can still get to the files on the AirPort. So, as an absolute last resorte I can get then from his computer and do something else with them.

With Golden Gate 27 Apple has removed support for the old AFP networking protocol and therefore you can no longer access AirPort. There is no workaround, there is no fix. AirPort has been labeled obsolete meaning hardware service and parts are no longer supported. Sorry. From Siri AI...

Yes, Apple is officially dropping support for AirPort devices and the AirPort Utility app in macOS 27.

Here is what that means for users:

  • AirPort Utility: The app will no longer be included with new installations of macOS 27 and is being removed from the App Store. While existing installations may still open, Apple has stated that functionality is no longer guaranteed.

  • Time Machine Backups: macOS 27 removes support for the Apple Filing Protocol (AFP). Because AirPort Time Capsule devices rely on AFP and older SMBv1 protocols, they will no longer work as Time Machine backup destinations.

  • Hardware Functionality: Your AirPort base station will continue to function as a router, but you will need a device running macOS 26 or earlier to configure it or change its settings.

If you are still using a Time Capsule for your backups, it is highly recommended that you migrate to a modern Network Attached Storage (NAS) device that supports SMBv2 or SMBv3 before upgrading to macOS 27.
