Touch Bar and Control Strip Settings Moved?

I have a 2020 MacBook Pro running Tahoe 26.7.1. The Touch Bar and Control Strip have suddenly stopped working, the bar is black. However when I go into Settings-keyboard, there is no Touch Bar option there for me to check if it was accidentally turned off. Have the Touch Bar settings moved to another part of the Settings menu? TIA.

for softwate issues—

On a M-series mac —

try a SafeBoot https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262 for an anomaly like yours, an effort to sort you issue

Login and test. Reboot as normal and test. Caches get rebuilt automatically.

if it is an Intel mac do both—

reset the System Management Controller https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295

reset NVRAM/PRAM http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379

Troubleshooting a Black Touch Bar:

A. Try Safe Mode:

In Safe Mode, login items do not run, and corrupt system files(i.e. caches) are intentionally reset as a way to fix issues

  1. Boot: in to Safe Mode: [Hold Down: shift key upon boot].
  2. Log in: as same user
  3. Wait: 30 seconds
  4. Restart; your Mac
  5. Log in: as same user
  6. Open: [the app]
  7. See fi the issue persists.

B. Single-Out this User:

Fro troubleshooting purposes, create a new Administrator user, seeing if you do not get this occur while logged in it. If so, then it is an issue with the configuration of the current user. If not, then it is an issue with the entire Mac, in which case you should reinstall the macOS. See below...

C. Reinstalling the macOS:

Nothing would be deleted. It's just that items that have become corrupted or deleted, would be replaced or reinstalled back to where they should be. Go Here: How to reinstall macOS from macOS Recovery - Apple Support. Important: Be certain to create a backup of your Mac prior to performing the reinstall. That way, you can have something to restore from the Mac from, should anything go wrong with the reinstall. Once reinstalled, try this once more, seeing if you still get this error.

Troubleshooting a Black Touch Bar:

Cache Resets:

Applies to Intel-Based Macs Only: Sometimes changes are made that require the system caches to be reset. So, attempt the following by using your keyboard:

The intent of the SMC Reset (and NVRAM) is that the internal devices, like the Touch Bar, would be reset. With these caches now having being made anew, see if this works as intended. In all, the Touch Bar will now be back its default settings.
