Canon Pixma Pro-100 printer not recognized on iMac after driver reinstall

Trying to reinstall Canon Pixma Pro-100 printer Monterrey 12.7.6

For context, this is an older iMac 92015 vintage) with 12.76 installed. I hadn't used my Canon Pixma Pro-100 printer for some time, and when I recently needed to use it, it was showing as "Offline" in the printers & scanners page under System Preferences. I've downloaded and re-installed the printer driver from the Canon website, per instructions provided elsewhere in the Support chat, I uninstalled the printer, disconnected the USB cable, and selected the "+" button to add a printer. I was advised that with the new driver installed, the printer should show up in the "Add Printer" pop-up. I've tried several reinstalls of the driver, followed by selecting the Add (+) button, no response whatsoever. Any suggestions or direction will be appreciated, thank you!

I would download and install the Sept 2026 Mac firmware update v1.4 for this device, and then other Sept 2026 drivers (or software) releases that you don't already have. Once all of that is done on Monterey, do the Add printer process and in the Use: selector, specifically choose the Pro-100 driver. If none of that fails to provide you with a working Pro-100, then go for the next paragraph.

This is also an Apple AirPrint supported device that does not require Canon drivers/software when connected via Ethernet cable or Wi-Fi (802.11n). Same add a printer process, select the BonJour discovery line, and the Use: selector will automatically configure for AirPrint.

Others have stated that with this PRO-100 printer, the Canon software solution produces a better color result than when using AirPrint. I don't have this printer to confirm that information.

Hi VikingOSX,

I appreciate your suggestion, however I do not know how to find and install specific firmware updates as you have suggested. I thought that firmware updates were included in MacOS "genera;" updates, and my machine report that the OS is up to date.

How do I locate specific firmware updates as you have suggested? Thanks for your help!
