WD Passport Essential SE cannot recognize by my MacBook Pro

Can anyone help me what to do? I bought this WD Passport Essential SE 750GB and at first it works well and done my back-up both via Time Machine and WD SmartWare (Software from the unit).

After backing up. I deleted my movies in my MacBook Pro in order to maximize my space in my laptop.

Now, I'm connecting the Passport Essential but my Mac can't recognize it anymore. It just keeps on turning and lighting but the device can't be found.

Help!!!!!!!!

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

I am also having this issue with my 1TB WD passport. It is not showing up in disk utility. The drive also does not have a SATA drive but has a proprietary port connected to the board. The smartware issues are associated with updates but most people had this issue with the Snow Leopard update and I have 10.5.8. I would be really grateful for any advice as I have already explored the WD discussion forums.
