How do I install Brother MFC-5840CN scanner driver to eMac OSX?

I've done the installation but the icon doesn't exist to show that the scanner driver was installed. Plus, when I go to open it up from the CD, it asks me to choose an Application to open it. So far, nothing has worked. Do I need to uninstall it however many times I installed it? And/or what am I doing wrong?

The Brother printer is an all-in-one w/photoshop. I feel like I must be skipping a step but instructions are not helpful in troubleshooting this. Any help is greatly appreciated!! And I cannot wait until Monday to call Brother. We need the scanning feature for a school project due Monday.

(And for those of you who offered suggestions to my previous post about which all-in-one printer to buy for an eMac, I thank you very much! For some strange reason, I wasn't notified when your answers came in even though I checked off that box.)

What is the name of the file you are attempting to install the drivers from? If it is a .exe that only works on PCs. You would be looking for a .pkg, .app, or .dmg file. If it there are none, please let us know what they are.

If your driver cd isn't working, Brother has the drivers for your system on their website.

I'm installing the file from the CD that came w/the Brother printer. It seems to successfully install to a Mac OSX but when I try to install and open up the BrotherTwain.pkg, it asks what application to use to open it. There aren't a lot of choices and so far, the 2 I have tried don't seem to work. Still trying to figure out what step I'm missing. I'm normally quite good at these technical issues.

Thanks, I'll check that out (maybe something is wrong w/the CD) and I'll also call Brother since it's during the week. I hope I won't get charged for the phone call.

Try opening the file with Installer.app.

On my Brother all in one, not the same model as yours, I didn't have to install the twain.pkg. When I did the basic install of the driver software it installed that driver along with any others it needed. There was not a seperate application for the scanner driver.

When I open say Graphic Convertor and select "twain acquire" within that application the Brother scanner is in the list of items to choose to scan from.

It may not be the same in your case. Like I said I have a 6 month old Brother and a different model from yours but that is how mine worked.

Turns out the installation was successful from the CD but the icon was so tiny and tucked away in the upper right hand corner of my monitor, I didn't know to look for it there! I didn't know what it was - the people at Brother helped me.
