iPad successfully paired with iMac, but it says it isn't connected

It says my device is not connected and on my iMac, it shows the bluetooth connection to the iPad, but has a red dot and it says not connected. How do I connect them. Thanks!

HI and welcome to Apple Discussions...

I'm not sure if you can "pair" an iPad with your iMac. According to page 22 of the iPad User Guide, you can use iPad with a Bluetooth keyboard for wireless typing, or Bluetooth headphones for wireless listening.

I tried pairing my iPad with my iMac. Unless someone knows a trick to this 😉

My ipad and iMac connect via bluetooth just fine. I just don't know what I can use it to do. On the iPad it says connected and on the iMac it has the green light and it says, "connected."

Any thoughts or ideas on what can be achieved with blue tooth between the devices. It might be redundant with all the airplay, icloud, and autosync features, but you never know what secrets have been baked into the devices.

My iPad isn't house broken, never mind jailbroken. It's a bog standard Gen 2 iPad (no 3g).

The iMac is by the window, where it's able to pick up a free WiFi signal. The iPad doesn't see the WiFi at all, even when I stand by the window with it. The iMac seems to have a better receiver. That's when I decided to see if I could use the iMac to share its internet connection, and after a bit of mucking around it worked via bluetooth.

Hope these images help...

To check "Bluetooth PAN" checkbox on the right, you have to uncheck "Internet Sharing" on the left first. (Re-check it when you're done)
