IPhone backup - how to disable the automatic backup??

Hi there. I hate it when my IPhone automatically decides to do a "backup" first when you want to do a sync with ITUnes. This is time consuming and I would manually like to backup the phone say once a month. Is there any way to set this up???

I'm not aware of an option to do this.

The backup for my iPhone 4 takes 15 seconds or so.

If the backup is taking a long time with iOS4, how many photos and/or videos are in your iPhone's Camera Roll?

If you only do the backup once a month and there is a problem that requires restoring your iPhone with iTunes, some of the data on your iPhone included with the backup will be lost.
