I just downloaded iTunes 10 and it won't display my songs.
I use Snow Leopard (got it recently)
When I had iTunes 9 it wouldn't work, and every time I reopened it it would crash immediately.
Now iTunes 10 doesn't crash, but when I import songs, the songs are imported and they start playing, but it doesn't show up in the library.

Also, whenever I click "Movies" and then "Music", the movies introduction page just stays there and sort of freezes.

Any ideas?

mac, Mac OS X (10.6.3)

    try this:

quit iTunes. move the following file to the desktop: <MacintoshHD>/users/<yourname>/library/preferences/com.apple.iTunes.plist

fire up iTunes (which will create a new .plist file). if it works now you can trash the plist file you moved to the desktop.

    no it doesn't work...

    Maybe I wasn't clear....
What would happen is that I would import all my music, and when i pressed play, it would work like a normal itunes, the bottom of the program would show how many songs I had, etc. But the Music screen is just empty.

I tried your solution and it was exactly the same.
    sorry. ):

I have exactly the same problem. I have tried deleting iTunes twice. Clean installation once. I am going to try deleting iTunes, Flip4mac and Quicktime and see how that goes.

I have this problem with all of my media. Music, movies, tv shows, etc. I can see how many TV shows I own because the little number is next to the link, but clicking on TV Shows does not let me see the actual shows in list, album, or any other view. There's nothing to click on so there's nothing to play.

I've tried every trick in the book. I can't believe I'm going to have to haul a giant 27" iMac into the Apple Store for a genious bar visit.

    I'm using iTunes 10.

I think I know your problem

Try the button cmd + J

This will show you your display options.

Change the settings will help maybe?
    Greetings

Same exact issue here. It's definitely a bug. Recently updated to iTunes 10 and now this problem. The music files will actually play if you access them in their respective directory. Double click on a song and it starts to play it opens up iTunes and plays but nothing shows up in the library interface. Very weird. The same applies to radio, movies, etc. The iTunes store works and so does Ping but that's it.

Apple support where you at??? Hot thread here!

Display options are grayed out. Thats weird too. I can't select "view options" from the view menu. Does anyone else have this problem?

Same for me too. Just reinstalled. No songs, no view options, and when I resize the application frame drags/ghosts across the screen.

New MBP. Fresh out of the box. Was not expecting this.

Here's a screencast of the problem. This has to be a bug.

My issue seems to be slightly different than you guys'. When I click on a song, the iTunes screen goes black and there are no longer any songs or playlists listed any more, iTunes just becomes a big black box floating there with the menu bar still up top. The music still plays though. The only way to bring the songs/lists back is to click the "x" with a circle around it (similar to what's on a widget) in the upper left hand corner, but that stops the song. What the heck, Apple?
  • GregH74 Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)
I might add that iTunes is randomly choosing when to black out my entire iTunes browser. Some songs play fine and the playlists and songs stay listed like normal, and other songs turn the whole browser into a black box while that song plays. Really weird.

Okay, one last thing. Let's say I start a playlist, and then minimize the iTunes browser to my Dock. When iTunes hits one of those magic songs that turns the screen black, iTunes automatically jumps out of the Dock back into the front of my screen, and I have to minimize iTunes again. Pretty buggy.

    Hi,

Try testing with an alternate iTunes library, as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1589. After launching iTunes while holding the Option key, import a few tracks and test viewing/playback in the alternate library.

If the issue persists, try removing and reinstalling iTunes as shown here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1224.
If the issue only occurs with the primary iTunes library, try re-creating it. This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451 will walk you through the process.
