Cannot Sync Apple TV with New iTunes 10

Updated my iMac with iTunes 10. Went to sync with Apple TV and it will not sync. Any ideas?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

Im on hold with Apple so I can scream at them

I stuck iTunes 10 on my Macbook today.
I've not used iTunes on it with AppleTV's before.

There was no AppleTV section in Preferences, so no 'look for' and 'disable automatic sync' options.

As a test I added the Macbook as a streaming library and the AppleTV device appeared under Devices. Even after a restart no 'AppleTV' tab in Preferences. Maybe it only pops up if you add a sync library, or maybe not at all.

Airplay listed my existing Airport Express (g model),and Airtunes enabled AppleTVs. It seems to have a nice new feature of independent volume controls for each speaker when multiple ones are selected.

The new iTunes icon is butt ugly but strangely allows me to see it quickly on the dock - there are several icons that for some reason I struggle to find quickly.

I quite like the greyed out icons on the lhs too, though I know many want the coloured ones back.

I am having the same problems with Windows 7 .

There is no AppleTv tab on the preferences page

I tried a system restore to pre version 10 but it errors with the library being for a newer version of itunes.

Re-installed Itunes but get same problem no AppleTv, no tab on preferences to turn on "look for"

I tried adding a new source on the appletv but still not appletv device in itunes.

I have no idea as to whether this is relevant or not, however, after installing iTunes 10 (upgrading from 9)and loading it for the first time the first thing that happened was that Windows Firewall popped up and asked me to allow a port to be opened. Without even paying much attention I selected OK (because I trust Apple....call me a fool if you like)and everything came up just fine with all three ATV's connecting and syncing as expected. Apart from the really average new look for iTunes 10 I have noticed no differences when it comes to managing the ATV's. Did I notice which port was opened? Sorry, no I didn't. Have I been able to find out which additional port(s) were opened by looking at the advanced area of the firewall setup? Sorry, no I didn't. If anybody know how I can do this, I am willing to give it a try.

As background, this is a purpose built 64bit Windows 7 PC. All it runs (other than windows of course) is iTunes. I made this decision 2 years ago because I was sick of iTunes not working every now and then for no apparent reason. I use the stock standard Windows 7 Firewall and Microsoft Security essentials. I can assure you all that this PC has never stopped since the initial install, other than for Windows updates. I have NEVER had a problem with my ATV's or iTunes on this PC.

Updated to iTunes 10. AppleTV did show up in the "Apple TV" tab in iTunes Preferences. But did not show up in Devices list on LHS.

Like an idiot, instead of searching forums first, clicked on the "Remove Apple TV" after selecting the unit in the "Apple TV". The tab disappeared.

And could not get back up, could not discover device etc.
Tried restart of iTunes, Apple TV etc.- nothing worked.

Just now did a factory reset on my Apple TV. It showed up in iTunes. Now "Apple TV" tab is also back in the Preferences window. Sync in progress- will take a while.

Of course, factory reset also removed software updates from device. Will do an upgrade once sync is done.

So I transferred my iTunes library to my iMac which I have upgraded to iTunes 10. Everything worked fine except that neither of my Apple TVs (v3.0.2) now appear in iTunes. As others have noted, because this system hasn't yet been connected to Apple TV, there is no "look for Apple TV" option in Preferences.

I have reset both Apple TVs to factory settings and they are both happily connected to the Internet (one via wifi, the other Ethernet) so I can play trailers, rent films, etc as usual.

I have tried connecting to the Computer libraries repeatedly following the reset using the five digit code...all to no avail as neither Apple TV appears in iTunes.

Not being able to connect to iTunes is a problem as I have a lot of content there.

Any help, please?! Is it the link to my iMac (wifi connected) or iTunes 10 that's causing the issue?
