Hi yojoey,

Welcome to the forums.

The Mac Mini is the more modern computer; so it's probable the computer you would want to use. Because it can run the current operating system; and the most modern software. Out the door it can't run finalcut or logic.
If you chose to upgrade the ram to 1 or 2 GB, and upgrade the OS to 10.6. Bothof witch you can do through a certified repair center. you could run the current logic. And the current version of final cut express.
How ever , even with upgraded ram, the mini dose not meet the system requirements for the current version of final cut studio.

10.6 include time machine, witch makes using the G-Drive as a back up drive super easy. All you have to do is plug in the external hard drive; and the computer will offer to use the drive as a time machine back up drive.

Regardless of witch computer you chose to use. Screen recycler will let you use the other computer as your 2nd screen. http://www.screenrecycler.com/ScreenRecycler.html

Here is the system requirements for final cut sudio
http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/specs/
witch includes:
Mac computer with an Intel processor (the imac is out because it's a G5)
ATI or NVIDIA graphics processor (integrated Intel graphics processors not supported)The A1176 minihas a Intel GMA 950 (integrated graphics chip) (witch means the mac mini is out)

BUT !
http://www.apple.com/au/finalcutexpress/specs.html
it looks like you might be able to run the current version of final cut express; you may want to double check and read it yourself.

Here are the specs of logic. I didn't see any thing that would stop the mini from working. but you should give it a ones over as well.

hx for the reply!
at the moment Im more interested in the Audio aspect. will be usng a older version of Final untiI we are more familiar with the software. We want to max out the mini and G5 ram and was hoping to node mode the two. Is that possible? And we thought we could use the g-raid for more applications as well a back up? Im though it will be better for mastering and bounces because of the space. We do much live recording so big files to bounce also want to get some good reverb plug ins which seems slow down the processing speed. Also have no problem switch from logic 8-9(more familar with 8, but like 9 for more electronica stuff.

screen recycler great idea thanks!

Any other scenarios ou can think of maybe two sets( production and post)) into the g-raid?

Thanks so much for your input I feel im getting on the right path.
