Repurposing my old AppleTV

It's a fairly safe bet I'll be buying the new AppleTV in a few weeks. But I'm loath to dump the old one—after all, it's really just a very small Mac (a mini-Mini, maybe) running Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, right?

It seems like it should be possible to do SOMETHING useful with it. All of my media is on a Drobo, but I never did spring for a DoboShare. Perhaps the old AppleTV's USB port could be enabled and it could be a network file server.

Is that, or some other usage, possible? Maybe a dedicated MAME machine? Small web server? Maybe even load some variety of Linux on it?

Any ideas?
