Q: tracks in same album split into different "albums"

I fixed my issue by selecting all the tracks, then putting "Various Artists" in the Album Artist field. This way, each track could have it's own individual artist info, yet iTunes still recognized them as being from the same album. Another poster said check "Part of Compilation" but that does NOT work when selecting several tracks to edit at once since it does not appear. I still don't know why I had this issue in the first place. The fact that the album name was identical for all tracks should be enough. :/

The "Part of a compilation" setting is on the Info tab when editing a single track and the Options tab when edit tags for multiple tracks.

The fact that the album name was identical for all tracks should be enough. :/

Consider how many bands have an anthology called Greatest Hits, would you want those to merge together?

As given, use a common Album Artist, or set Part of a compilation to Yes, or both! (Recommended!) Differences in the settings in iTunes or on Apple devices mean that neither setting on its own is always enough.

Here's what I did, and it's a solution for iTunes 11 (Although it works for any version 7 and above). This solution applies to your problem, which, from what I understand, is having multiple tracks from the same album spilt into different albums. Here's what you do:

1. In iTunes 11, go to "songs".

2. Sort that list by album (to make the tracks easier to find)

3. Select all those tracks.

4. Select "get info", then click ok.

5. go to the "sorting" tab. Under album artist, put the album artist's name followed by an X. Don't ask me why, it just works. So if I had lets say, some tracks by Kelly Clarkson, I'd put Kelly ClarksonX.

6. In the same tab, do the same for the album name. Go to Album, then put the album name followed by an X.

7. iTunes should do this automatically, but if not, then after step seven, check the boxes next to album artist and album.

8. Then go to the "options" tab, and check "part of a compilation", choose yes. Also check "remember position", and choose yes (don't ask me why, this just works).

9. Go back to the "info" tab, and input the regular album artist and album name (do not put an X).

10. Make sure the year/disk number are right and if not change them.

11. Press Ok when you're done.

12. It should group them together into one album. If it does, then select all the tracks again, "get info", ok, then go back to the sorting tab and delete the X's from the album artist and album name.

13. You should be good to go!

Lemme know if this works for you. I found this solution awhile ago for iTunes 7 or 8, and this works for 7 and above, 11 included! You're welcome!

I believe that something is wrong with Sort Album and Sort Album Artist: leaving them blank (even ticking the box in front of them) won't really resets them: you need to ovwrite them and then put them back to blank.

This worked for me (I had exact same album name, artist, year etc... my album kept being split)

At one point I had some 26 albums with the same name, each containing one song from the album. And that happened with several CDs I had ripped in iTunes. In the end I got it into order basically using a combination of techniques like setting all the songs to be not part of a compilation, then restting them as parts of a compilation; renaming the album; and in just one case (Chuck Berry's 'No particular place to go' which is ironic!) simply deleting the song - I can add it later. And all that made incomparably easier by using CopyTrans Manager and the help of the CopyTrans support team (well done and thank you, guys! Yes, it could have been done from within iTunes - but CopyTrans Manager made it much easier, and has other useful facilities too.Every iPod and iPad user should check out this invaluable but inexpensive software.

This issue was driving me nuts! But the whole remove the album name, leave blank, apply then re-apply the album name again worked out great!!!!

You nailed it. I don't know why this works either, but I was trying all of these options with the exception of adding the "X" to rename the album and the artist and it never worked. I tried it your way and it worked the first time! Thanks!

GOT IT!....I had this problem too:

Do the following:

1)Select all of the songs you wish to "merge" into the same album

2)Right Click | Get info

3)Check Album Artist and Album

4)Write down whatever the Album's name is

5)Write down a "Space" on the Album Artist

6)OK

This works because you must have the same values for both Album Artist and Album...this probmel mostly may occur whrn you have multiple artists for one album.

Those tips all still work for me. In fact I don't recall making a single change to my library to accommodate iTunes 11. The menus & controls have changed slightly making some of the screenshots in my grouping article out of date, but the principle of tying together an album with a common Album title and Album Artist still holds good. If you have done that and still have problems then often it is because there are values in sort fields creating the split.

Feel free to post a screenshot of a problem album and I can give specific advice.
