Error Message: "Please install Apple Application Support" after QT7 Install

🙂 Excellent news, air. Glad you got things working again.

I don't use iTunes, but I assume that if I were to install it, that iTunes would also use the new AAS.msi also.

It's an interesting question as to which version of AAS you've got installed at the moment. In old copies of the QT 7.6.7 QuickTimeInstaller.exe, the AAS version was 1.3.0 (If my memory serves me correctly ... I think the AAS version 1.3.1 only showed up in the Safari 5.0.1 SafariSetup.exe).

In more recent QT 7.6.7 installers, the version number might be the new AAS 1.3.2 that comes with the current iTunes 10.0.0.68 iTunesSetup.exe. (I haven't checked a current version of the QuickTimeInstaller.exe to see if it contains an AAS 1.3.2.)

On XP, it's possible to check your AAS version in Add/Remove Programs. Select the Apple Application Support entry and click the "Click here for support information" link. Does it show a 1.3.0 or a 1.3.2? (Or possibly even a 1.3.1?)

I've installed iTunes 10, after successfully intstaling Quicktime (latest version 7.6.7) but I'm getting an error message when trying to start iTunes:

"Apple Application Support version 1.3.1 is installed, iTunes requires Apple Application Support version 1.3.2 or later."

"Please uninstall iTunes, then install iTunes again."

Ive tried uninstalling it and installing it again, but i keep getting the same error message everytime.

I've tried everything but at no avail. I had a clean reïnstall of my Win XP system just the day before. I'm running Agnitum Outpost Pro as a firewall, Norton Antivirus and Norton Utilities.. (all recent versions) and my Win XP operating system is completely updated.

For some reason (Firewall / Internet security programs?) the Apple iTunes installation program doesn't install all the necessary components.
There is a way to manually unpack the installation program to it's 6 different components and install each component one by one.
(Advantage: you don't need to uninstall or deactivate your security programs)

Best thing to do is:

1) Download the iTunes installation program (directly from the Apple website
http://www.apple.com )to your desktop,
WITHOUT INSTALLING the iTunes application.

2) Download he WinRAR decompression/unpack utility (for example from:

http://download.cnet.com/WinRAR-32-bit/3000-2250_4-10007677.html?tag=recommended Downloads )

and install it on your desktop for easy use.

3) Unpack the iTunes installation program, using WinRAR by rightclicking the
iTunes installation program and choose 'Open with WinRAR'.
Don't bother with the message from WinRAR about files beïng corrupt
(these are probably the unreadable 'Apple Mac' files).

4) You'l see that the original iTunes installation program consists of 6
different installation programs.

4 utility programs (necessary for iTunes to work correctly)

- Apple Application Support (Version: 1.3.2)
- Apple Software Update (Version: 2.1.2.120)
- Apple Mobile Device Support (Version: 3.2.0.47)
- Bonjour (Version: 2.0.3.0)

and 2 main programs

- Quicktime
- iTunes

Copy these 6 programs to your desktop with WinRAR,
where they will appear unpacked.

5) Install each program one by one IN CORRECT ORDER:

- First the 4 utility programs, one by one.
- Following this, install QuickTime.
- Install iTunes as last.

6) Check the Windows installed programs list to see if they're all installed.
You can check the versions of te programs by clicking the information toolbar
for each program.

THIS SOLUTION WORKED FOR ME (I did not have to uninstall and reinstall QT or Itunes):

For those of you who have deployed Apple iTunes 9 or Apple QuickTime 7.6.4 and received the “Please Install Apple Application Support”, we have found a workaround that fixes this. Installing the Apple Application Support part of the product on affected machines will result in a working program. (AppleApplicationSupport.msi)

1. You can get the AppleApplicationSupport.msi by either:

a) Run a compression program such as WinRAR against the installer, extract AppleApplicationSupport.msi

-or-

b) Run the install application and leave the program idle at its menus. Navigate to your temporary director and look for a folder named IXPxxx.tmp (xxx is a random number). The MSI program will be located in that folder. Please note: You must leave the installer running. If you close the installer, it will delete the temporary directory.

2. Once you have the "AppleApplicationSupport.msi" file, double click on that file to run the program, and it will actually install it on your computer in the appropriate location.

3. Then double click the "AppleSoftwareUpdate" file, and it will update any updates necessary.

When I did this procedure, it not only corrected the Quicktime start-up issue, but it also fixed problems I was having with Adobe After Effects (this also fixed the output template module” error, and “QT will be disabled” errors I was receiving).

I WAS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM, AND THIS SOLUTION WORKED FOR ME - IT ALSO FIXED OTHER PROBLEMS WITH Software related to QT (i.e., Adobe After Effects).

Just checking something before proceeding, air. Does Apple Application Support currently appear in your Add or Remove Control panel?
