New Apple TV arrived yesterday, set it up fine then tried to impress m girlfriend by getting a film for her. The popcorn was ready, I pressed play and it sait 59 minutes till ready.
I cold have gone to the dvd shop in that time.

Pants, pants, pants, pants!!!!!! So much for Apples advertised claims of 'Instant film rental'. Mines going back in a week if it doesnt improve.

Same here, movie after movie.
Rented iron man 2 today hours ahead of time so I would not have an issue when we viewed it.......

Screen said it was ready and to press play....

Next screen 56 "ready to play in 56 mins"

Iron Man 2 was going to be the first movie I watched on it, sadly not out for another two weeks here, although Iron Man (1) was not even showing on the iTunes store, which was worrying.

Mine is terribly slow as well, to the point that it is unusable. I am able to stream music and movies from my iTunes hard drive without issue, however watching and purchasing TV episodes from the Apple servers is like pulling teeth with the wait. I should point out that I have Verizon FIOS service and pay for the 25mbs internet speed, I tested several times during Apple TV download attempts and it came in at 31mbs. I have full bars on my Apple TV wifi tester, and utilize a Airport Extreme router. Icing on the cake was waiting 22 minutes to watch a 30 second HD trailer for the movie Salt; which stopped twice during playback to buffer. Bravo Apple!

I just bought the new Apple TV. It connected to my wireless network without any issues.
YouTube on the Apple TV takes around 2 minutes to start playing and then often stops and buffers during play. The same YouTube video on my iPhone or laptop, on the same wireless network, in the same place as the Apple TV play almost instantly without any buffering during playback. A similar case for Netflix.
Now, the big one, iTunes rental movies.
I rented 1 movie from iTunes, which informed me it would be ready to play in around 5 hours!! After 20 minutes I gave up and came back to it the next night. Now, the movie was showing as ready to watch. I hit play, 3 hours before ready to play.
I called Apple, who asked me to connect with and ethernet cable, I did and all was great, so it is the wireless. Apple then gave me a lesson on wireless interference and the possible causes, telephones, microwaves, chicken wire in the walls.....
They also suggested I take the unit to my local Apple store to test on their wireless network.
I took the unit to the Apple store and not surprisingly it worked great on their wireless network, which I am guessing probably isn't your average Joe home network.
So, I started moving the router around trying to improve my signal to the Apple TV, eventually ending up with my wireless router sat next to the Apple TV and still having 249 minutes to wait for the movie!!!
Now, the unit will work as advertised over wireless, the Apple store proved this.
However, will it work over wireless on your average home network, not in my experience.
I refuse to believe my network is at fault, the iPhone has no issues, different laptops have no issues and even when the router is right next to the Apple TV there is still an issue.
It would appear that there may be an issue with some of the hardware used in the unit.
So, I guess Apple now want me to buy an Airport Extreme so that I can use the Apple TV as advertised, funny I didn't see that in the advertisment anyway.....
