iPhone wont Sync to new laptop's iTunes

Itunes has always had issues with me. And now when I go to Sync my iphone 3GS with my new laptop, it wont sync. It will act like its going to, it will change screens and say Syncing or whatever but it just exits out fast. I hate dealing with itunes, zune is so much faster and easier. But if I could get help my view might change. Don't ask me any basic **** either, I've already done everything the self help has said other then contacting my provider. I'm using an older usb cable but that shouldn't have to do with anything if it still charges it perfectly fine right?
