Q: FaceTime (after changing phone number)

Hi there,

I bought an iPhone 4 on launch day, used FaceTime and worked fine. However I have since changed my number with my mobile network, now people cannot FaceTime me.

If I FaceTime them though it shows up with my old number and if they then try to FaceTime my old number it works! Very confusing I know.

Is there a way I can get this so it knows to FaceTime my new number?

Thanks

iPhone 4, iOS 4

Same thing happened to my boss - he had a temporary phone number before he managed to transfer his permanent one from Sprint. Now FaceTime is stuck on his temporary number. Any comment on how to change that?

Talk to Apple or your carrier--sounds like it requires some behind-the-scenes on-the-server stuff to be updated.

Apple has free phone support for the first 90 days.

    Hi there,

Yes I popped into the store and they advised me to do a restore and this will re-register itself.

I'll probably do this tonight, will let you know how I get on

I swapped out my SIM card giving my phone a new cell number.  However, my FaceTime number stayed the same as my old number. All I had to do was restart my phone and FaceTime resynced to the new number.

Restoring seemed to do it, but Restoring from Backup takes moves it to the old number, and it's not really an option- I have to restore from backup. Any ideas?

I just answered my own question....to do a restore as an Apple guy told me to do once, is hold the top button and the round button until the phone shuts itself down, do not turn it off with the screen, just keep holding the buttons till the phone shuts itself down, then I turned it back on, and had two different things happen as I was doing this on 2 iphones. My phone, it still read my old number so I turned the face time option off, turned it back on, signed in, and my number was correct; on my husband's phone, it automatically updated his number for the face time, did not need to turn his face time off and on again; now it's working on both phones...

I have a slightly different problem. I live in spain, with a factory unlocked iphone 4, ios 5.0.1, with an orange simcard. Facetime and imessage worked great. i visitied the uk and decided to put and o2 sim which worked great aswell. i got back to spain, put my orange simcard back in, and now my facetime and imessage wont work, because they try and verify with the o2 simcard number that was in there when i was in the uk. help!!!

I think I have found the answer for this problem it worked for me I copied this from another website so thanks to him!!

Sometimes you might have the wrong number showing under the field "My number" and the field is not editable.

This might be either because you have ported your older number from a different network (via PUK code) to a new one or that you have changed sim

Do the following to correct this:

    1) Switch of Wi-FI and make sure you get 3G receptiion

    2) Switch off Facetime and for few seconds

    3) Go to phone under settings and you should have the correct number

    4) Switch facetime back on by entering your iTunes credentials

Hope this helped some of you
